An Important Note on Hiking Dangers

Please note hiking in the redwood forest, even on established trails, can result in minor injury, major injury, or even death.

There are many tripping hazards such as exposed roots and rocks. Also the forest floor is full of decaying debris and any foothold or handhold can give way, resulting in a fall or slide that can lead to bodily injury, head trauma, or death.

From my experience hiking injuries are much more likely to occur when off trail versus on trail. I have experienced broken ribs and concussion while hiking. I urge everyone to take care and use trails, taking heed of any trail closure signs. You are responsible for your own safety.
